One of the most radical changes in Jewish religion came near the end of the Old Testament period, when Ezra the Scribe mandated the study of the newly-canonized Torah as a religious act, and the foremost commandment in Jewish life.
He did more than mandate, he may have rewriten large parts of it. In addition, restated the marriage laws making it possible to do a DNA trace back to Ezra, if not back to Moses.
